White Mark After Scrubbing Corian Counter?

Christina
by Christina

My kid was scrubbing our beige corian countertop with Barkeepers Friend and now we have a spot which looks like a bleach stain. Outside of thinking corian wouldn’t respond in such a manner, how can I fix this?

Hi Christina, Bar Keeper's Friend is a soft abrasive so it shouldn't have left a mark. Perhaps that white spot was caused by limescale and hard water? You can try using a lime scale remover or put some vinegar on a microfiber cloth and leave for a few minute before wiping off.

    Try this:

Countertop Repair Technique — Removing Blotches You may notice that the surface of your countertop is starting to look blotchy. Typically, this is caused by letting hard water dry on the surface, leaving behind a film of minerals. To remove blotchy appearance or fine scratches, follow these simple steps.

Pour some mild abrasive liquid cleanser, such as Soft Scrub®, on a damp sponge or cloth and rub over area, using small circular motions, from the front to the back, and then from side to side, overlapping the circles until the entire area has been cleaned.

Thoroughly rinse the countertop with clean water and wipe surface completely dry. Check to see if blotchiness is gone. If not, repeat procedure, applying more pressure on the sponge or rag.

If this does not work, contact corian.

  • Until the countertop is still wet, you can start by rubbing the area where it is scratched with using the peach-colored side of the cleaning pad. Use a light touch. Avoid pressing too hard for it may eave deeper scratches. Rub over the scratch, using a straight-line motion.

    Hi there,

Try coffee or tea as they both stain! Good luck

  • I would contact Corian directly for the best method to deal with this spot.

Hello. That does seem very strange. I would suggest calling corian contacting them directly. I was told when I had it installed 20 years ago at a prior residence that the color stayed the same straight through the countertop.

    • Hi Hopefully the Bar Keepers friend did not scratch the surface. That you would not be able to repair. But I would try mixing baking soda and water to see if it is from hard water stains. White Vinegar usually takes out water stains and since it is Corian not stone you could use that. This is what I found from Corian Minerals, lime scale and hard water – apply lime scale remover or vinegar with a microfiber cloth and leave for a few minute before rinsing. DON’T: Panic! Corian ® is a solid surface that’s renewable. Small surface scrapes and stains can simply be sanded away and more significant damage can be repaired. During a repair, a replacement piece of Corian ® is fitted and blended with the rest of the surface.

Corian has a blog to show you how to fix it.

Is it possible there is a buildup and where he scrubbed took it to the original color? It appears there is a small light spot in 2 other places as well. I would definitely reach out to the manufacturer or a local distributor for Corian, perhaps a cabinet installer.

Real Corian is monolithic and re-surface-able,

as in it can be sanded and machined and the color is through the entire top.

For example, If you set a very hot pan on it and scorched it, it could be professionally sanded out.

Meaning, the Barkeepers Friend didn’t cause this.

If none of the above-noted solutions clear it up, I would definitely contact Corian.

Corian is not easy to remove discoloration. I would ask professionals so you will not make it worse
