How should I lighten up my curb appeal?

Your home has a charming Cape Cod sort of feeling to it. I think the simplest way to add curb appeal would be to accent that. Try painting the posts and roof of your front door overhang white to help them tie in. Paint your shutters a traditional color like blue or green. You could leave the window boxes natural after that. Your front door you could have some fun with a bright color you love. :)

A few colorful plants would give a real POP

Your siding is a neutral color which allows a wide choice of accent colors. I would consider eliminating the flower boxes and paint the shutters and post a deep rust to tie in with the roof. If you keep the flower boxes think outside the box and use a patterned peel and stick tile. What ever you chose for the door color or cover the cement step to match. Try not to use a paint as that will chip in time. Try a stain.

To "lighten" the curb appeal, I suggest painting the posts and porch trim the same color as the trim of your home so as to make your door the focal point. The door could be painted a different color to make it pop. To make the entry to the front door less crowded, I'd remove the window box. If you choose to keep the window box at the side of the home, I'd paint it the same color as the door and ensure there are always some type of greenery in it.

Here's another thought . . .

1. Posts: Tie them and the roof of the porch to the main house in white - this photo shows a disconnect as if this cover was a second thought.
2. Paint the underside of the porch light (white/soft blue) to reflect light
3. Remove the windowbox under the porch and add shutters. You can reposition the mail box on the shutter or to the right of the door
4. Paint the shutters in a complementary color (today it's lighter hues) matching the window boxes to give it definition
5. You may want to "divide" some of your plants and extend the flower bed out and curved from the walk more to soften the look. A nice small flowering tree/dwaft for added color could be added. Definitely use perennials (minimize your costs) that bloom at various times of the year
6. Paint the front door a "happy" bright complementary color to the house and shutters
7. Add a nice potted plant on the walk for seasonal colors

Hello. Filling the flower boxes with some brightly colored flowers might be suggested. And maybe mulching the front landscaping to refresh it.

I sometimes feel like the front door and the shutters can be a different color if you wish to work on more color into your front elevation exposure. Painting in the flower boxes might be an additional idea.

I am not too sure you’re planting zone but colorful flowers like geraniums begonias and impatience might be suggested. Checking around your local bigbox hardware store or nursery may reveal the most reasonable regionally acceptable choices.

Additionally if the budget allows a nice welcome mat or small outdoor carpet on your entry porch and some potted plants could be options options

Hi! Crisp white trim, and sunny yellow would really brighten it up! Colorful flowers in the boxes would be the icing on your cake!

Add color with plants (not just the greenery).

Flower boxes under the windows would add even more interest.

I would definitely paint those elements white. Then I would put some really bright pink, white and yellow flowers in the boxes. I would also be tempted to add a row of bright flowers in front of the greenery you have under the boxes.

I actually like the exterior of your house. I would just suggest to add more colorful flowers in your gardens.

I love the posts that color, you can add some flowers on your window planter and some hanging plants.

What a sweet and charming house. I love it. I would probably paint all the trim, wood and shutters, white, to give it more of a cottage feel and brighten the house. Tons of great possibilities

Y'all need to place 2 larger vertical shrubs on either side of the double double-hung window and beef-up the window box work on each season, spring, summer, fall, Christmas, winter.

You could paint the wood white, but for more of a contrast, you could paint them a light gray.

I'd go with a bold blue (brown and blue go well together).

You will get as many color choices as answers. No one has any idea of what colors you like. I love the board and batten shutters. I have the same on my house. I would make the door a different color than the shutters. Shutters can be painted with the Rustoleum 2X spray. It covers very well. I took mine off sprayed them and put back up. Leave the flower boxes as is. Do the door in a similar color as the shutters ie: dark green shutters, lighter green door. Or terra cotta colored shutters with a lighter peach door. Keep in the same family but not the same shade. Do the Post in the same color as the shutters. I think terracotta and peach would look great with the color of the shingles.

Personally I think it's adorable as it is but if you'd like to change things up, that's your prerogative for sure. I'd pick a lighter or sprightlier color for the window boxes and pick a nice bold color for the door. If you paint the door a light color, it'll just disappear in the shadows.

For me, they look pretty fine. But you can paint them white.

Charming. I'd get rid of the flower boxes, especially the one near the front door. Maybe opt for a very large pot for flowers near the entrance. Posts and connecting piece I'd paint the house colour. I'd also plant a pyramidal cedar and another lower growing everygreen bush at the end of your home to balance the the height and bulk of the posts.
