Hiding TV Behind Tapestry
I had a beautiful tapestry hanging on one of the walls of my living room. I would often look at the tapestry and imagine myself walking on that sidewalk and looking at the sea waves.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of options for working out were very limited. And I decided to put a TV on that wall and do my workouts in the living room.
My new TV arrived and was successfully installed. And suddenly my living room looked and felt so impersonal. Oh, I missed my tapestry.
And I had an idea to install a decorative rail and have my tapestry slide on that rail. This way I would have my tapestry and my TV on the same wall.
I bought the barn door hardware kit on Amazon that included the rail and decorative rollers.
I was not sure if the holes for screws on the rail would align with my studs. I bought 2 2x4x8 boards at Home Depot. My wall and the rail were 14 feet long. I had to cut a bit off to make the boards the right length and attached them to the wall making sure to hit the studs.
The 2x4 support board on the wall did not really look nice. I bought 4 small corbels at Home Depot and added those for support and also as decorative touches.
These are the corbels I bought.
And this is what the support board looked like after I painted the board and the corbels white.
Then I pre-drilled the holes on the support board and installed the rail.
I attached the rollers to a 2x6x8 board and used upholstery nails to nail my tapestry to the board.
Here is the view of my tapestry and TV on the wall.
I bought a wrought iron spindle at Home Depot. It had a hole on one of the ends. And it was easy for me to hang that spindle on a little hook next to the tapestry to use as a pull.
My TV hides behind my beautiful tapestry. I can pull the spindle and slide my tapestry to the side if I want to watch TV or do a workout.
Guess how many times I exercised in my living room using my new TV? None! Because I am either working on a new project or walking my dog, or browsing internet for new design ideas.
The barn door hardware costs me $89 (which was a very good price for a 14 feet rail kit). The corbels were about $22. The boards, paint, nails, a spindle and other misc stuff were about $40.

I like the black wrought iron look, but those who don’t could paint the hardware the same color as the wall to make it ‘disappear’

I LOVE it! We have a window by our TV and I'm thinking I could do some like this or similar. The TV would be covered during the day while the window let's light in. We can watch TV at night which would cover the window. I am so glad I took a look at this post!
