How to make an easy hand soap for gardeners. This is perfect for those who have never made soap before because it uses liquid castile soap, so you don't need to use lye.

You need to use potassium hydroxide to make liquid soap. It's also rather complicated for the average person, and it takes a lot of time. I typically uses bases instead of making it. However, any exfoliant that you add to a base will sink unless you use a suspension base. These bases are expensive, so I came up with another plan. Instead, I made something similar to a sugar scrub to scrub away dirt but used liquid castile soap to wash hands.

I added lemon peel and ground almonds for exfoliating and removing dirt. I also used frankincense, lavender, and lemon essential oils for their skin benefits. You can learn more about the ingredients and find alternatives in my hand soap for gardeners post.

To make this gardeners scrubbing hand soap, you will need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon ground almonds
  • 1 tablespoon lemon peel
  • 8 drops frankincense
  • 7 drops lavender
  • 7 drops lemon

Melt and coconut oil in the microwave for about 15-30 seconds. Add essential oils and stir well.

Combine the sugar, oil mixture, lemon peel, and ground almonds. Stir well. Then spoon into a jar. Mine fit nicely in an 8 ounce jelly jar.

To use, scoop about 2 tablespoons into your hands and use to scrub and wash your hands. Rinse well.
