You can use cardboard boxes and cover them with contact paper.
You can also cover them with gift wrap & fabric.
I covered the box I store seeds in with pages from a seed catalog.

Hello. Spray adhesive and fabric or decorative paper applied to plain boxes might be suggested.
You can use contact paper to cover them. I used some pretty duck brand tape in 2 colors, a solid & a pattern, to cover a cardboard box. It held toddler toys for about 3 years until she decided to start climbing on it.
you could also decopodge them with Mod Podge using paper, fabric, etc
