Dining Table Make Over
I’ve been looking for the perfect table for our kitchen and finally I found this beauty for only $65!
It’s the perfect size and the top comes off to make it easier to paint the bottom.
Using a palm sander, I sanded the top and also the sides as I wanted to stain the whole top.
I love when you sand something and see the gorgeous wood grain.
My husband unscrewed the top off so I could paint it. I used a sprayer , which only took about 10 mins to do. The color I used is a light coastal gray called putty by green sheen
All done! Now I’m ready to stain the top.
So much motion on this piece! Make sure to wipe with a clean cloth to remove any excess dust.
I used two different stains. First I used the gray by miniwax, then the brown. I used a soft cloth to rub on the stain. You need to rub in a straight line so not to leave any marks or show where you stopped. Once the Gray dried, I added the brown color called early American. The gray is called weathered gray.
Here is the first gray coat of stain.
Then the brown. I added two coats of brown to achieve this look. Some woods will obviously turn out different, but you can decide how you want yours to look.
It’s that simple! It only took me a few hours to do. The longest part was waiting for it to dry. Once it dried, I took a fine sand block to smooth it down, then rubbed some wax by Vera thane, found at the Home Depot.
What a transformation! I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
It fits my decor perfectly.

I have a similar table that was traded for a piece of wood I had. This table had very thick paint on it. Even paint remover wasn't doing a good job. Sanding did almost nothing. The answer was Krud Kutter. It literally ate through the paint in about 10-15 minutes so it could be scraped off. I used half the bottle, and the bottle was about $8.
Then I used diluted craft acrylic paints to put streaks of color on the table top, which were layered. I painted the base a deep gray with a hint of navy in it. The entire table was then given 3 coats of polyurethane. It now is my dining table with chairs from my old table (until I can replace them). The acrylic paints cost me $6 and the polyurethane was $12. All told, approximately $26!
