I’ve been looking for a summer wreath for my front door, but my shopping has always ended up coming home empty handed. I even looked on Etsy and while they were super cute, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. For one of my Hometalk TV episodes, I made an embroidery hope wreath but it wasn’t large enough for my over sized front door.

Here’s the first embroidery hoop wall hanging that I ever made. Isn’t it fun?

Here’s the one from my Hometalk TV episode. When I began this project, my goal was to recreate this one and just make it larger but it ended up not resembling this one at all.

I started with more items than I ended up using. I have some faux flowers. Burlap ribbon, a turquoise painted pennant flag, a bow, a wood welcome cut out, a rattan placemat and the embroidery hoop.

When I was playing around with what I wanted to create, I used one of my placemats as a backdrop and I loved it. The only thing was that I didn’t want to give up my placemat. I didn’t think it would be a problem because at one time these were everywhere. I went to Walmart, Big Lots, TJMaxx, Ross and finally found white ones at Burlington Coat Factory. Spoiler alert, Amazon has them, I just didn’t want to wait for shipping.

First I used a wire cutter to cut the floral stems down.

I placed the floral stems on the embroidery hoop to determine how much to cut off.

I added the burlap to look like a bouquet wrap.

Next I cut pieces of burlap ribbon to suspend the placemat in the middle.

I used this dollar tree wood flower shape to glue all the ribbon strips together. Originally, I was going to paint them but since they are on the back, I skipped this step. I did one side and skipped the rest.

Here is what it looked like on one side.

Here it is all done.

I glued the ends to the inner hoop to make it easier to put on the outer hoop.

I glued another cut out to the front. Mine isn’t perfectly centered but it turned out that the placemat covers a lot so it was ok in the end.

Now we are ready for the flowers.

You can hot glue them right to the placemat but I glued them to one of the wood cut outs and then onto the placemat.

I played around with this…

And this…

This…

This…

I decided to try to create a flower pot looking shape.

I used some upholstery nails to secure it the placemat and added hot glue for staying power.

Here it is.

Now, do I stain or paint the embroidery hoop?

Do I add the welcome?

For now, this is good for me. It is simple but brings some summertime color to my front door.

I did find this Hello that I think works well and adds “chef’s kiss”!

I like it. It adds a bit of whimsy to a very dark heavy door.

Don’t make this mistake… when I hot glued the “hello” on, it fused the two hoops together so I can’t straighten my flowers until I break the bond.

Hi Stacy. I love your wreaths. Especially the one with the "blue vase." Personally, I like the "Hello" for this one and I think your choice was perfect! The color schemes look so pretty and go so nicely with your front door. BTW, speaking of front door; its beautiful 😍)

    Thanks for sharing ♥️

I, too, love your beautiful wood door! The “painting your front door for a pop of color” trend will someday turn back to the beautiful wooden “dark, heavy door” trend! In the meantime, your cute, “pop of color” wreath is amazing, and the door sets it off perfectly!!❤️😊❤️

Thank you! That is not a wood door. It is metal but painted in a faux streaky wood finish and it has the texture also to resemble wood. I'm glad it looks so real.😄
