I know this has been done all different ways but maybe it will inspire you to reuse something old!

I had this old sewing machine bottom for a long time. I finally decided to make something out of it.

It was very rusty and yucky looking!

But still looked really neat!

I used steel wool and gave a quick sand, wiped it down and just used white spray paint to cover it quick. I wasn't able to get all the rust off but for my purpose, it didn't need to look perfect.

I gave it two quick coats with white spray paint.

Once dried, I placed it in it's new home.

I had some left over barn board looking tongue and groove panels so I cut three to size and screwed them onto a cut to size piece of plywood.

I painted the sides white and left them rough looking. It seemed to work.

I placed it on top of the legs and used very short screws to secure it.

I really like the look of this now nightstand in the kids guest room in the cottage.

It was super easy to do and getting rid of all some of my project stash and making it into something useful is always a bonus!

What do you think?

I have two bases. Many years ago I put a wooden top on one to make a table. The other is on my porch with a galvanized tub (about 36"x18" x12") filled with dirt and a variety of plants.
