Just use pliers in pinching down the sharp edges or use a hammer those sharp edges down. You can also use sander, just buff down the sharp edges. And also glue ribbon around the sharp edge or put duct tape over the edge if you'll cover it later.

Hi Missy, go to the home improvement store and buy some medium grain emery cloth, tear a small 1 inch strip off and run the sharp edges of the lids to smooth them.

You can buy copper foil at a stained glass supply store or on Amazon. It comes in rolls and has an adhesive backing. Also several widths. You peel off the backing and fold over the edge so half is inside half outside. When you have it placed where you want it you take a small dowel rod, or ROUND pencil and rub it flat so there are no creases or wrinkles. If you want it silver buy a bottle of silver patina. You brush it on and it instantly turns the copper silver, like pewter.

I always sand the edges when I cut aluminum cans. Sandpaper does a good job but you may also want to use a metal file if you have very sharp edges.
