I had been drooling over the beautiful arch cabinets out there but the over $2000 price tag made it unappealing.

I thought maybe just maybe I could make my own. I searched on marketplace to see if I could find a piece of furniture that would work and I ended up finding the perfect piece.

I fell in love with this piece because of the arch doors. We took it down to its bare bones and rebuilt it. The top and bottom were separate pieces so it was easy to work on each part separately.

We started with the bottom piece and took it apart by cutting off the sides.

Once taken apart, we rebuilt by adding plywood on the sides.

We added a piece on plywood on the bottom to be able to add decorative feet. Reattached the doors and then the bottom piece was finished.

We then started on the top piece. We removed the back hardboard, set aside the doors, and then started removing the sides.

We then used the jigsaw to trim the doors into the curved shape we wanted.

We added plywood to the sides of the top to where we would begin the curve.

We used the doors to trace our curved shape for our back support. I went with a paneled plywood to add more texture.

We then reattached the door clips by adding a piece of plywood at the top of the arch. We added a small piece of trim against the doors to allow support.

We added small slats across the top to have a base for our bendable hardboard.

We screwed on the hardboard along the top.

I then used Jolie chalk paint in Graphite color.

I absolutely love how it turned out and can’t believe it’s the same piece of furniture!

Are the only original pieces the arched doors and bottom doors?

A lot of work but if it was worth it to you that’s all that matters. It looks great!

I love your project! You guys did a wonderful job. I wish I had your stamina. As you know people have different views, I would have loved the inside painted as well. It gives me the feeling that you ran out of paint. But remember this is my taste. Like I said you guys did a fantastic job.
