Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around. It won't hurt the plants and will get rid of the ants. Sevin granules will work as well.

I tried sprinkling cornmeal around all of it. Cornmeal will kill ants after they eat it and it won't hurt the plant at all. Perhaps watering more often and less too.

Hi Vikki! I am so jealous lol we're in the worst drought up here in northern MN and, weirdly enough, it caused a bizarre ant problem with everyone so I just assumed you were in our same boat. I so wish you could send some of that rain our way!

    1. Easiest and effective way is to mix two tea spoons of liquid dishwater or any sopy liquid to pint of warm water (If you add 2 teaspoons of pepermint oil to solution that will be super effective) and sprinkle this solution in night, wash with fresh water in the morning to remove the soapy solution that you applied in night.
    2. Natural way to remove ants from plants is to use lemon juice, lemon juice is citrus solution which ants don’t like , cut down and squeeze the lemon ring in the cup and sprinkle it on plants.
    3. If there are more number of ants, you can prepare the solution with citrus solution with a pint of warm water and sprinkle to plant to get rid of ants.
    4. You can also use species method to get rid of ants from the potted plant. In this method you can use cinnamon, cloves, chilli powder, coffee grounds, or dried mint tea leaves that can be spreaded over the base of the plant leaves to deter ants.
    5. You can also use oranges for getting citurus juice and make good quantity of solution to get rid of ants in leaves plant.
    6. If you didn’t get lemon or oranges you can also vinegar to prepare solution and sprinkle to plant.
    7. You can also use boiling/cold water to base of the plant to get rid of ants from potted plants (but this may affect the plant).
    8. You can also keep artificial sweetners near outside of the plant so that ants will be attracted there and you can get rid of them from potted plant.
    9. To kill the ants instantly you can use baking soda and powdered sugar spread across the soil. This will cause damage to ants digestive system and it will get killed.
    10. Mix 1 tea spoon of soapy liquid, one tea spoon of cooking oil to a pint of water and sprinkle the plant to get rid of ants from plant.

Too much vinegar will kill everything for quite awhile. Honest!

get a container for a gallon of water, add tobacco. Any kind chew, cigar, cigarette butts, you get the idea. Soak some tobacco overnight to make a tobacco tea. Will kill any critter bug in your soil. Plants like it, does not harm anything! It’s the nicotine.

Flowers most often attract ants when they have aphids. Some species of ants actually "farm" aphids! Get rid of the aphids and the ants should leave. Here are methods of ridding your garden of aphids:

Neem oil spray works well to clear up aphids, too. The oil coats the eggs and smothers them, and it does much the same to the adults. You can purchase Neem Oil in garden centers or online.

An old-fashioned remedy for aphids is to dust plants with flour, as the flour will constipate the aphids and deter them from sticking around. Like diatomaceous earth, this needs to be repeated if it rains.

Sprinkle Jiffy corn meal mix along with equal parts of boric acid (dollar stores) away from the plants, the ants will be drawn to this and carry it back to the colony.

Cornmeal. Sprinkle it around the plants. Ants can't digest it.

    Hi there,

Use Ant Powder - they will take it down and kill the nest.

  • Annie Annie on Jul 18, 2021

Unfortunately, the best way to get rid of ants is poison. They carry it back to their nests...

Pour leftover coffee and coffe grounds on and around the plant. Ants hate coffee. It may not kill them but, it will make them go away.
