I love a wreath for every season, and summer is no exception! This flip flop wreath is fun and totally customizable, so you can make one that fits your aesthetic to a T! Check out how I made mine and you'll have your own in no time.

Tools and materials:

  • Wire wreath (14 inches, four individual wires, six sections)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Mesh (ten inches wide)
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • Clippers
  • Flip flops
  • Fake flowers
  • Glue skillet

Wrap your pipe cleaners

Wrap one pipe cleaner around the inner two wires in each of the six sections. This will help add tension to your wreath. Keep in mind that your pipe cleaner will stay where you wrap it, so make sure you have it exactly where you want. Next, wrap two more pipe cleaners on each of the six sections around the outer two rings. After all this, your wreath should look like the image above.

Make a flip flop wreath

Gather your mesh

Place your mesh onto your mat and measure out between 14 and 20 inches. Next, cut 18 separate pieces for each of the sections. Once that’s done, place your mesh flat on the table and gather it towards you (this technique is known as the ruffle technique). Once your mesh resembles the picture above, place the middle (where you’ve created the gathering) into the pipe cleaner and secure it by wrapping the pipe cleaner around. Once all 18 pipe cleaners have a mesh, twist them a couple of times to make sure they’re secure, and then use some clippers to snip off the excess.

How to make a flip flop wreath

Add the flip flops

Turn your flip-flops upside down and secure the holds with pipe cleaners (pictured above). Don’t bother with securing both bottom pieces, one side should be enough to keep everything in place. Next, take the pipe cleaners on the bottom of your flip flops and feed them through the mesh and then wrap them around the metal frame. Repeat this with both pipe cleaners.

Add your flowers

Snip off the stems of your fake flowers so you’re left with just the head. Next, dip the edge of the flowers into a hot glue skillet and then add them to the wreath as you see fit. Just remember to evenly distribute the colors so no one side gets overwhelmed.

Add some greenery, get creative and play with colors in this simple flip flop wreath. I think this wreath is great for the spring, all through the summer, and can really be that pop of color you’re looking to decorate your door with. Get creative with the colors, the flowers, and any other details you hope to add!
