Animals eating my melons!
I have cantaloupe and watermelon plants growing, but something (rabbit, deer, groundhog... idk) always eats the melons as soon as they start. I'm too poor to buy chicken wire and stuff like that. I heard that human hair and urine will keep away any animals from eating them. Will that work, or what can I use that's around the house or super cheap at Walmart?

Hi Jen, here's one video I found that you may want to see and try what they did.

Milk crates over the melons will keep the critters out. Maybe consider raised bed gardening next year with fencing start collecting what you need now, look for things or pieces of furniture (deep drawers, trash barrels that are cracked or broken on the bottom, sturdy plastic tubs...)
Raised beds would work for rabbits but deer can still get to them and groundhogs can climb trees so they could as well. You can use any kind of stake old pipe, discarded pipe, tall tree branches with limb cut off and pound into the ground around the area you plant. Use fine mesh screen and use a package of S hooks or even wire to attach the netting a foot above the plants and to what ever you use for stakes. At the ground, cover the netting with rocks or discarded brick all around to keep burrowing animals from getting under the net.
Human hair can be picked up at a hair salon and will keep deer away only. You can get a liquid "deer & rabbit spray" at Lowes & HomeDepot. Not sure if walmart carries it.
Go pick up some free pallets and make a fence.
