Laundry Room Makeover & A Renter Friendly Cabinet Makeover

Giving our laundry room a facelift was never really in my plans with as often as we move. And then my step-dad gave me 4 vintage wash boards and I couldn’t resist making over this space to showcase them. I spent about $20 total on this whole makeover by repurposing things I already had around the house. You’d be surprised how little you can spend on re-doing a room when you “shop” from around your own house. Here’s how I did it (and details on where I bought some of the things I already had on hand)…
If we owned the house, a coat of paint on the walls would have done wonders as well but since that wasn’t an option I focused on bringing in some color and character. First I brought in a rug that was just sitting in our garage and that really warmed up the room, plus with entry door from the garage and backyard, it’s a great place for the dogs and kids to wipe their feet before coming in the house.
My favorite part of the makeover is probably the chalkboard panels on the cabinets and they were so easy! I bought two rolls of Chalkboard Con-Tact Paper (These and a chalkboard maker are the only things I purchased for this makeover). I cut it to size using my sewing cutting board and rotary cutter. Then I applied it with a squeegee and used a sharp box cutter to trim any excess. I tried both plain chalk and a chalk board marker on it and both cleaned off easily. I’m planning to do this on my top kitchen cabinets now too as it made such a huge difference in the laundry room!

After the makeover
For the above picture, details are as follows:

Top shelf, left to right: Giant Mason Jar from Target filled with Laundry detergent, pink frame from from Hobby Lobby with black card stock and a clothespin cut with my Silhouette CAMEO and this cut file, small washboard to which I added some Graphite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and “Wash” with white vinyl.

Bottom shelf, left to right: Wood Slice from Hobby Lobby also painted with Graphite Chalk Paint and white vinyl using this cut file, small mason jar to hold chalk to write on the chalkboard cabinets (I’ll get to those soon), bucket from TJ Maxx for $5 filled with rags.
Yes, I hashtagged our dryer with black vinyl. You can find the sock cut file here. (I’ll share the free file at the end of the post).

For the wood sign, it was one I already had painted in Annie Sloan Florence. I used this Laundry cut file and Silhouette Adhesive Cardstock for the text. That way it’s easy to pull it off and change the sign in the future. I also used various clothing files from the Silhouette online store to cut the clothing on patterned card stock and attached them to jute twine with mini clothespins.

The cute white stand frame was from TJ Maxx for $5. I used black card stock and a white paint pen to write “50¢ per load”.

The baskets are from Target and hold extra paper towels.

I was wondering about the chalkboard contact paper. Do you have the brand you used? I looked for a materials list but I did not see it. TY
