I saw a post here on Hometalk.com that gave me this adorable idea! My husband found this console TV cabinet on Craigslist for $20 from someone who was already using it as a dog bed but it was awful plain for my taste. I only had to buy pink paint, adhesive spray, and new hardware. Everything else was stuff I already had from other projects I've finished.
Stripped all the white paint off of it
This was the worse, most time-consuming part of the whole project. I had planned to stain the cabinet a dark stain but, when I stripped it, I found out that the cabinet wasn't even wood. The worse part was that the decorative trim was plastic and the stripper got into it, causing some of the plastic smear off when I tried to scrape off the paint. My husband had to use his hand sander to smooth it out. Thankfully he was able to get it smoothed out without messing up the detail. He's such a great hubby! :~) But, the upside is that the trim on my house is Chocolate Brown, so I already had left-over paint that would work instead of buying stain. Seeing the finished product, I actually like how it looks painted.
Paint's all done!
My 6-year-old son was all too willing to help paint. He and I painted the brown and I painted the pink ($8 sample paint from Target).
Almost done!
I used spray adhesive (Michael's, $4) to glue fabric to the backboard of the cabinet before reattaching to it. My husband found the cutest hardware for the knobs and handle ( Lowes, $15). I had fabric and batting left over from a baby quilt I made, so I used that to make the cushion. It's reversible too; one side is cotton, and the other is soft fleece.
Finished!!
The curtains were made with more of the left over baby quilt material. I'm so pleased with how it turned out.
She likes it!!
I'm even happier at the fact that Ginger loves it too! :~)
