DIY Concrete Table Top

My sister had added a concrete top to her coffee table, and I fell in love. I immediately thought of an old side table we had inherited from the previous home owner and knew it needed concrete...
Adding concrete to a table top isn't as hard as you would expect! This was done with no special tools!
This is the side table we had inherited from the previous homeowner.
I mixed a "feather light" concrete. It really doesn't take much!
I added a few layers at a time - check out my blog post for al the details.
Here's the piece after I added all the concrete layers.
Once the final layer was dry, I lightly sanded the surface.
Adding a sealer was my final step.
And the result was a more industrial look! (I also stripped the wood and added a darker stain. To see more, check out my blog post.)

There's a product called skimstone that you can tint instead of paint. Paint really never holds up well on concrete. You could also stain it. Just depends on your taste.

no barrier between wood and concrete? my experience is the wood draws the moisture out of the concrete and cracks over time. perhaps this newer feather crete is better suited over wood products?
