Here is a challenge for all you Hometalkers. At a yard sale I bought an old portable potty, solid oak.

Any suggestions what I can do with it, I just couldn't not bring it home. It was used as a low side table - what a waste.

Can you post a pic? Are you wanting useful furniture or yard art?

I am technically challenged and have no clue how to post a picture. It is oak, ~ 20x20" square and looks like a box on somewhat short legs, but tall enough to be able to comfortably sit on it. The lid flips open, and then there is the place for the potty. It is in great shape and it just followed me home. Since it is in great shape I'd hate to expose it to weather, but I am stumped. Thanks for any and all suggestions. :-)

The options are limitless. First you need to decide where you want it to go. I have seen several different ones of these over the years. You could put it in a reading nook with a side table, have a cushion made for it and put it in a bedroom corner. Entryway or mudroom "bench". If your bathroom is big enough it would look good in there. Depending on where and your style you can refinish it by staining it, if it's made of nice wood, or you can paint it a fun bright color.

Thank you Carroll, it looks like the finish is still perfect, especially after considering its age. When was the last time anyone used a bedside commode like that? That is why I am reluctant to take it outside, but you have made some great suggestions. All of you, please keep the suggestions coming. :-)

Rose, If you want to email me the picture I can post it for you (miriam@hometalk.com) or you can refer to the FAQ's on how to post pictures; http://www.hometalk.com/about/help My first thought was planter, too, but it's hard to say without seeing it...

Thanks Miriam, I will give it a shot. The first trick is to get it on your e-mail, but I will keep trying. Believe it or not, I usually am not that dense, but it is a new system and everything seems catty whompus. :-)

No, if you've never done it before, it just takes time to figure it out. Not dense at all!! :)

It would make a great holder for an small tub and used as an icebucket for parties! Even macho guys would drink chilled beer out of a toilet! You could move it in and out as needed!

I like that. That would be really, really fun. :-)

Make a Grandmothers toliet out of it...i.e. use the open seat area use a coconut filling or every fine screen put in the hole and then fill with potting soil and plant great plants and spillers and it will look fantaskit!!! I have a old rocker that I made a grandmothers chair out of for spring and summer I have Wave petunia's, red germians, something tall and and pink flowers...I love it and what a conversation piece when people come to the front door!!!

I saw online where a person put it beside their toilet as a tp holder.
