A fabulous project you can build in no time. So very useful indoors and out! Decorate it with hand painted motifs. See my website for lots of painting tutorials!
This is built from standard lumber and with basic tools. For greater details of this build just click the website link.
Cut boards to the size bench you are building. You can easily customize this bench to your needs. I used 48 inches on this bench.
Use a jigsaw to cut the curvy parts on the sides and the legs but you can also just do an angle cut if you are not interested in making it curvy.
On the shorter boards that will be the legs (18 inch boards), I cut out this pattern. You can just do an triangle if you prefer.
You cut out a slot for the side pieces to fit into the leg sides, this will be the height and depth of your side boards. It doesn't have to be perfect, this is just a fun bench.
Now assemble. Start with putting the sides into the cut out spaces on the legs, squaring up and as you go, then nail or screw in place. The first one is a bit tricky single handed but the next is easier. Last but not least, add the top piece and nail or screw into place.
Fill any nail holes you dont' wish to show with wood putty. Then paint or stain any color you wish.
And there you have it, a lovely Victorian Farmhouse Garden Bench!
Try painting it in a hot color like Red for a bold statement piece.
