Young Man's First Apartment – Part 3

An empty apartment, an adult son without a piece of furniture to his name. How I helped my son decorate his first apartment while respecting his budget and his personality...
In the first 2 parts of this series, I introduced you to my son’s first apartment, a place he moved to when relocating for his first job. You can see the living room in Part 1 and the kitchen, dining room and terrace in Part 2, available on the blog or on my Hometalk profile page. In this part we’ll take a look at his bedroom, bath and desk alcove.

In the bedroom, as throughout the apartment, we kept with the same theme of clean, sleek urban style. The nightstands, as well as a large dresser, are a warm toned wood with simple masculine styling. The leather headboard, as well as the wood pieces came from Macy’s, a pleasure to deal with in terms of timely delivery. (It’s one thing to wait a few weeks for an end table, but no one wants to move into an apartment and find their bed delivery is delayed.) The wall plaques pay homage to my son’s East Coast home and the table lamps add a little flavor to the space.
The apartment is equipped with a very nice little alcove in a hall off the bedroom, the perfect spot for a small desk.
This space has become a little media center for my son and is the spot I most often see him when we Skype.
The huge double closet behind the desk you can glimpse in the mirror, which makes this area an excellent dressing area, as well.
As with many apartments, the bathroom is tiny and keeping it looking nice is dependent on the accessories. We went with a crisp white for the towels and bathmat for a refreshing look.
Fortunatley the fixtures are neutral and the tile a nice cream marble. The glass shower doors also lend a clean spa like feel, albeit a claustrophobic spa!
As with the kitchen, the final touch was a little glimmer delivered by hammered pewter accessories.
