2X4: Four Ways To Decorate Pumpkins Without A Knife

If carving pumpkins sounds like work to you, ditch the knife this year so you can have all of the fun without any of the mess. Here are four ways to impress your neighbors with slice-free pumpkins:

Lace.

For a Victorian-era take on the classic Halloween stoop decoration, cover your pumpkin in lace. You’ll need enough lace to cover your pumpkin, Mod Podge and a hot glue gun. First, measure your lace and cut it to fit the pumpkin - you want it to wrap around the entire pumpkin and be taut. Then, Mod Podge your pumpkin and immediately place the lace on it, as if you were wrapping a present. Cut any loose pieces and hot glue the edges so they don’t fray. Done!

Chalkboard Paint.

This year, should you go scary jack-o-lantern? Or maybe give it a goofy smile? With chalkboard paint, you don’t have to choose! Cover your pumpkin with a couple of coats of chalkboard paint, let it fully dry and then go crazy with chalk! For a chalkboard paint recipe, visit: Make Chalkboard Paint.

Thumbtacks.

For a seriously bad-motha-pumpkin, buy a pack of brass or silver thumbtacks and go at it! All you have to do is push them into your pumpkin in whatever pattern you’d like to see. Pumpkin skin is soft, so the thumbtacks will go right in without any trouble. It’s that easy to be a little edgy – just ask Oops! I Craft My Pants.

Glitter.

Halloween doesn’t have to be all ghouls and no glitter! Bring a little dark charm into your house with glitter pumpkins like these from Teal & Lime. All you need is a bottle of glitter, glue, a foam brush and a paper plate. We recommend that you tackle this project outside unless you want your house to be coated in sparkles!
