DIY Mantel Shelf

Another item checked off our dining room to-do list!! We had a big, barren wall in our dining room that was screaming for something awesome! Sure we could've gone for a cool piece of artwork, but that's not very fun when you want to decorate for the holidays. A better option?! Yup, you got it, a faux mantel shelf! There are LOADS more details and a FULL tutorial on my blog, but here are some of the highlights that I'll go into!
Trim options and measurements for my 5 foot shelf...
Embracing "short" comings! Learn from my mistakes y'all!! Measure twice, cut once!
Installing corbels for adds support.
How to secure the backplate to the shelf using kreg joints.
Staining with milk paint...
Painting with milk paint to achieve an authentically aged look...
Voila!! The finished product! There are TONS of step by step pictures and lots more details, so come on by and check out my blog! Make sure to leave me a comment if you have any questions! Thanks y'all! xo

I guess you could always clear it off and add a painting to the mantel shelf too, if you want to feature some art there. Looks great as-is though.
