What kind of gas is available in your area? How big and area are you trying to heat? Those are some things to factor in for both choice and expense. We use propane fired heaters in our house. One is a propane stove and the other a propane insert in our fireplace. Natural gas is not available in my area, so it limited our choices. Propane is not cheap, but it's a lot less expensive than electricity and far more environmentally friendly.

natural gas we have a gas starter in the fp now. our family room is large with high ceilings (20x25). We love the wood burning fp but due to asthma and bronchial problems I can't tolerate wood burning fires any longer. Thanks for your info

My question is do you need to convert or just want to convert? .Wood burning enhances the value of your home.

I can relate, Cheryl. I too have respriatory issues. The gas is certainly cleaner and just as purity. :)
