What color should we paint our front door?

We want to paint the front door a different color.  Any suggestions?

Wow! What a beautiful home. I would love to see coordinating shutters on the front windows. They would stand out against your beautiful brick.

The round top window could use a matching half round shutter for a bit of contrast to the square windows shutters. Black paint would look outstanding with the cream trim. Or you could go cream for a more quiet look. Then match the door paint to the shutters. I'm not sure you could go wrong.

You could choose almost any color you like. I believe that the color should relate to the colors inside your home. So if you have blue in your home, choose a shade of blue for the door or go with a color that compliments blue. Your door is in shadow so you might consider a light or bright color so it will stand out more. I agree that shutters would add a lot of interest to the front of your home. I would recommend a simple raised panel and they can either match your door or (a more interesting choice is) paint the shutters a neutral like black and have your door be a stand-out color to draw the eye to your entry.

Thanks for the comments!! I hadn't ever thought of shutters. Great idea...but I am just going to paint the door right now. My inside colors are deep shades of gold, red, beige with some greens and navy. You are right the door is in the shadows so a dark color I think would push it back too much.

This photo made me laugh...there are so many trees around their reflection makes it appear in the photo like your windows are painted green too! I love my trees and you are lucky to have some to! Pick a color you love...but make it a bright one so it won't disappear in your light brick...maybe a bright rust! I would say 'no' to shutters.

Bright green chartruese would brighten it up or a bright yellow. Your house is lovely but it needs a spark. Only do the door bright and keep window trim the same.

Depending on whether or not you add shutters and I assume there may be a garage door to the left of the picture which should be considered as well... a coordinating color or for all these would be nice.. I wasnt sure if there are green curtains in the windows or not but It all stems from an over all view of the entire house... Go with what YOU like and choose what makes YOU happy..

I would do a burned orange. If you put shutters I would paint the a deep dark grey almost a black grey

Please, do not add shutters to your house. They would be totally out of character for it. Paint the frame of the entry way white, then paint the door a color that will work with the bricks. Is there a 'tinge' of color in the bricks? Use that color for the door. The white framework will give in a 'brightness' and the door will be accented. Look at the color-wheel while holding it next to a brick...go to the opposite side and pick up a good color...please, no shutters...

I love the color it is. But if the brick has a 'tinge for reddish brown' why not go with more of a rust/copper color. That might not be as bold as a red and yet different...

the green is not noticeable because of all the green lawn and landscape and red would not be good because of the color of the brick so if you want it to pop go with a mustard yellow or do a black shiny door with a wreath with popping colors on it that way you can change the wreath up anytime and the door will go with everything

My suggestion would be a rich creamy Ivory! Dark takes away and Light brings out! If you use this light color it brings the door out and makes a statement. Right now the door is hiding because of the dark color. On the door then use a bright wreath of your favorite holiday color. It will also make that stand out. Also make it a high gloss sheen and it will make cleaning it a whole lot easier.

I say YELLOW. Bright and happy. If you want to try different colors, get some freezer paper, cut multiple pieces the same size as your door (approx..) and spray paint each of them different colors. Then hang them each for a few days to 'judge' each color, so you make a visual decision.

Blue, helps prevent evil from entering your home. Wive's tail but I still paint my doors blue and can always notice a difference once done.
