Grab a bowl, lotsa dish soap, and water. Watch fleas drown in it.
Bruce with his BFF Zach
The dog on the right is mine. His name is Bruce. As of 5/20/14 he is a 1 year old + 2 months pure bred Boxer. Our family decided last January that we were going to adopt a new family member. I wanted to adopt a baby, but my husband convinced me to get a dog instead. And with the look of excitement on our children's faces with the thought of getting a puppy, I knew I had to do it.

Fast forward to today and this dog (puppy) has completely changed our lives. I've come to understand that I'm a perfectionist. I like things perfect and when it's not perfect I don't function well at all. So when we brought Bruce home I expected a perfect dog. When the 'perfect dog' turned my living room into his own toilet, or when he chewed through my sprinkler system, or when his paws prints are all over my house, or WAIT...when he Yadda Yadda. I'm sure you get the picture.
Just old fashion dish soap
However, when he infested my home with fleas..I literally thought I was going to die. Everyone in our family had flea bites and the annoyance had driven us crazy. We had to quarantine Bruce outside, steam clean the carpets, disinfect EVERYTHING, and pay $497 to a local pest control company to get rid of fleas. Needless to say, I was turned upside down with anger. I've had enough.
Here's the definition of fleas from Wikipedia:

Fleas are the insects forming the order Siphonaptera. They are wingless, with mouthparts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Fleas are external parasites, living by hematophagy off the blood of mammals and birds.

Sucking blood? That's just downright nasty. I was ready to give Bruce away.

Thankfully, my friend calmed me down and breathed new life in me. She reminded me that having a dog is like having a baby, 'you wouldn't give Bruce away if he were your son, right?' Absolutely NOT! After I calmed down a little and gained my composure, I turned to my trusted friend Google and typed in these words 'How to get rid of fleas naturally'.

After all my research, I've concluded that fleas really don't ever go away unless you pay a hefty fee to a company that sprays. However, I learned a very easy trick into trapping them while your home is being treated. And it's only dish soap and water.

Seriously! It's that easy. Just get a casserole dish and use a lot of dish soap mixed in with water then put it near the window sill or patio door and BOOM! You've got a flea cemetery and now you can take back control of your home. Look at my own flea cemetery below:
