How to clean grout with just baking soda and bleach. According to Wikipedia, the definition of grout is: Grout is a construction material used to embed rebars in masonry walls, connect sections of pre-cast concrete, fill voids, and seal joints (like those between tiles). Grout is generally a mixture of water, cement, sand, often color tint, and sometimes fine gravel (if it is being used to fill the cores of concrete blocks). It is applied as a thick emulsion and hardens over time, much like its close relative mortar.[1] Unlike other structural pastes such as plaster or joint compound, grout, when mixed and applied correctly, creates a waterproof seal.
Before..it looks like black grout
A couple of days ago I was cleaning and scrubbing my tile floors in the kitchen and noticed something peculiar. The grout is NOT black, but white. UGHH! Now I've got to figure a home remedy to clean the nastiness that I just discovered. For a quick second I thought maybe I could just leave it and pretend it's black grout. GROSS!

Anyway, my kitchen isn't that large and the tile is about 63 square feet so I thought I could manage a small task.

I attempted one square of tile and I was pretty amazed at the results. AGAIN, I used my trusty friend white vinegar for these results mixed in with bleach and a scrub brush and old tooth brush. If you attempt this task PLEASE remember to wear old clothes you don't care about because when I did this I bleached certain spots of my favorite yoga pants.
Leave bleach mixture on for 5-10 minutes
INGREDIENTS:

3/4 OF WHITE VINEGAR

1 CUP OF BLEACH

TOOTHBRUSH AND/OR SCRUB BRUSH

INSTRUCTIONS:
After
Mix the vinegar and bleach together and pour on the grout. Leave the mixture on for 5 to 10 minutes. Start to scrub for best results.

****a little elbow grease is worth it!

Mixing bleach with vinegar is dangerous because it releases toxic chlorine gas.
