An Old Secretary With a Modern Twist

Secretary desks are so versatile for today's modern decor. They can be repurposed and placed in a living room, family room, bedroom - even a bathroom!
My vision for this antique secretary was to paint it in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen and to add a little pop of color in the back.
I removed the back and covered it in a lovely, bright fabric. After taking the entire piece apart, I painted and waxed it to achieve a beautiful sheen.
I love the curved front of these drawers! I painted the existing hardware so that the fabric would be the focal point.
I left the original mahogany finish on the insert. I liked the contrast of the paint and the wood finish.
Don't you just love how the fabric is peeking through the slots?
Love the lines at the top and the finial!
A close up of the fabric back. So pretty!
So that's my interpretation of bringing an old secretary back to life - but with a modern twist!

This is a beautifuly done piece, however do not understand why you painted the hardware. if you did not like the hardware, which I love, there are many metallic paints. REGARDLESS WOW, Twila in SC love
