Kitchen Renovation

Sarah for 20 State

The kitchen is 90% done, it's the last 10% that is driving me nuts! Apart from the tiling that will hopefully be finished this week, I need to paint, get the floor sanded, fix the lights and find a window treatment.
Any advice re the lights and window treatments would be most welcome.

New oven that doesn't smell like mouse!! The white subway tiles are my favourite part.
Loving the bar stools for the island bench.
The kitchen is very light and open. These windows look into my neighbours yard so I would like a bit of privacy and to cut down on the light. Any ideas for affordable window treatments. I'm leaning towards matchstick blinds.
I have two of these upcycled industrial lights. They came up really well with paint. They look odd so close to the ceiling! I need to lower them, any ideas?

Hi. About privacy because your windows over your sink face your neighbors yard: I had a similar problem. I bought mirror/reflective film that I water/squeegeed onto all the glass. The install WAS awkward because I had to work above/on the sink counter, BUT the result is FANTASTIC! I don't need any shades/blinds/curtains during the day! AND, it's cut down on all the bright glare from the sun! At night, if I want to, I just pull over the lightweight curtains, and voilá...instant privacy. Otherwise the curtains are open all day. One drawback you'll have us that the mirror film won't help entirely when your windows are open. But, you can then either ignore that little problem because the majority of window is now private, or you can pull your curtains in from the sides while the windows are open. You'll STILL greatly benefit from the relief from the sun.

Love your window--natural light is a natural commodity. We have a huge window and a similar issue. I went with airy white eyelet cafe curtains. I like them open, but when my husband closes them--a tremendous amount of light still filters through and privacy issues are well addressed.

I've put mirror/reflective film on my windows above my sink and besides greatly cutting down on bright, hot sunlight, it gives me complete privacy during the day. If I open the windows, that small space with less privacy hardly matters; or if people are out there, I just slide over my lightweight curtain(s) to cover the opening. I love that film & have used it on my busy-street-facing living room windows also!
