My computer has been down for several weeks. I was just able to get it going again last night. Boy, I sure did miss this page!

    Hi Mary, welcome back! :)
  • Several weeks! I love using the computer so much I would really be upset without it that long.
  • MARY T MARY T on Sep 01, 2012
Thank you, Miriam! And Shabby: I was not a happy camper, believe me.

When the computer goes down reminds me of "back in the day" when our TV's would go out and we had to live without them for awhile. Back when you only had one TV in the whole house.
  • MARY T MARY T on Sep 01, 2012
Donna: I remember that well. ;-)

Isn't it horrible when the computer goes out!! Makes you feel like you're missing everything that's going on the the world. Then withdrawals set in . . . . . and your hands start shaking cause there's no keyboard to tap tap tap on. The brain feels deprived of oxygen and your eyes start to glaze over!!! IT'S HORRIBLE!!! LOL ;~)

I know the feeling. I went without my own computer for months a few years ago. Luckily my hubby had his laptop he let me use and would have replaced mine earlier, but I was trying to decide if I wanted a laptop or to replace my tower. I ultimately had him replace my tower since my monitor was new and I liked how big it was. I have a mini laptop now to use on trips, but if I had no computer at all for several weeks, I'd either go bonkers or get a whole lot of my projects accomplished. Did you get anything fun done while away from your computer Mary?
  • Terri J Terri J on Sep 02, 2012
Mary, I just went thru the same thing, but mine was only down for three days. Three very LONG days - can't imagine whaat you were feeling, but i know I was lost.
  • Donna R Donna R on Sep 02, 2012
@Susan S. - haha, funny girl. Those computer rehab centers are horrible too! They make you learn how to play board games to decrease your desire for the keyboard!
  • Susan S Susan S on Sep 03, 2012
@Donna - You been there done that?? LOL I haven't been on my desk top model for about 3 yrs - first it's soooo slow it drives me insane and once I started using the laptop I'm not stuck in just one place. Of course, I'm also not getting much done either that that's another story!!!

I bought the new Droid, so I thought I could check things on that, but was having those problems with my computer so that didn't work out well. Looking forward to seeing more postings. I think lots of people have been working on projects and enjoying the summer. I honestly could be on the computer most of the day, especially with topics like these. Hope you all are having a good weekend!

@Mary T. - uh huh. How does that happen - you intend to just hop on for a few minutes in the morning and you have lots 'n lots of other important stuff that needs to get done and the next thing ya know . . . . good gosh!! How'd it get to be 4 in the afternoon??? LOL

I think a lot of us belong to that same club, Susan. ;-)
  • Donna R Donna R on Sep 03, 2012
I know I belong to that club. If you ever want time to pass quickly, this is the place to be! It can fly by. Even though I get on here a lot, it does motivate me to get projects done. I think I've done more around the house since reading blogs and coming on here than I have in past years.

Very true. It reignites passion for doing things.

Well I did do a technique on a piece of wood where you use tea to coat it & let it dry then put a coating of vinegar that's been soaking in 0000 steel wool and the chemical interaction creates an old greyish weathered look. So, yes I did get something accomplished today!!
  • MARY T MARY T on Sep 03, 2012
Susan: That sounds really nice. I keep forgetting all the things you can do with tea.
  • Susan S Susan S on Sep 03, 2012
The clipboard idea on here is awesome. I was looking thru it the other day and so many things I'd saved for future reference and I'd already forgotten about them. Plus it's good to have an instant refresher when you need to double check the steps on a project.
  • MARY T MARY T on Sep 03, 2012
Susan: Silly question, but I do like and save some of these things to the clipboard, but I am not sure where the clipboard goes to or how to retrieve it. Does that sound ridiculous or what? LOL!
  • Susan S Susan S on Sep 03, 2012
No!!!! Not at all. Believe me, I'm still trying to figure some things out. Go to upper R. corner and hover your mouse over your name - same place notifications is. Well, right under that is clipboards, profile, my account and logout. When you're on somebodys post and want to save it that's immediately to the right of their post and it says share, like & save. You just click on save and your clipboard opens up. When you do save you can just put things all lumped together or you can make files if you like "landscaping ideas" or "water features" when you see posts from lots of different people. You just have to go snooping around - you won't get bit, I promise and you can't screw it up because you can always delete it!! Hope I helped and didn't confuse you. ;~)
  • MARY T MARY T on Sep 03, 2012
    Thanks Susan! That was easy!
  • Z Z on Sep 03, 2012
So Susan have you shared your wood technique project yet? I love the clipboard too Mary T and Susan. I just need to find the time to get to those things I've saved. I'm hoping to get my pantry finished tomorrow. I only planned on moving a few things around to make room for our son's food and I wound up doing the whole thing. I'm loving it though. Now if I can find the time to paint the shelves!

You're very welcome Mary, so glad I could actually be helpful!! Becky - I just did the staining today but I have to say I was really amazed at how it turned out. I haven't posted it yet and still don't know what I'm going to make out of it but it's ready when I am!! LOL
  • Z Z on Sep 03, 2012
Okay, I guess I'll wait. I've been wanting to try this on a round dining table I have only I have an idea to take it a step further. I suppose I should practice on scrap wood first.
  • Susan S Susan S on Sep 03, 2012
Well the technique worked just fine - I just don't know what I'm going to make out of this beautiful piece of old grey aged wood!! You already have a table so all you need to do is pour the vinegar over 0000 steel wool - cut up in smallish pieces and let it age for 24 hrs. Apply the tea and let it dry then do the iron/vinegar. I'll post my pic 2moro I promise - OK???
  • Z Z on Sep 03, 2012
Well I'd do that if I didn't have so many other things that were higher priority Susan. Not that playing on Hometalk should be on that high priority list, but it seems to have taken top billing over my daily chores. :^D thanks to ladies like you! I'll be looking forward to seeing your wood tomorrow. I'm going to post my "gardens", if you can call them that, tomorrow since I promised Becky H.
