In need of design inspiration

I just painted my bedroom and bought new furniture. I'm stuck on what colors to use to accent it. Should I use contrasting colors? Pictures above the nightstands? Sheer curtains or something heavier? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
This is the "dressing" area of the bedroom. Thinking of putting an area rug in front of dressers with a bench in the middle.
The color is Mercer Blue by Valspar. During the day it looks more grey than blue. Thinking of a starburst mirror above bed in silver?

The furniture is what I would call "tailored-sophistocated," so I'd go with a bit of a classy decor. If light/privacy/heat isn't an issue with your windows, you might choose a lovely decorative rod to match the wood of your furniture. Then purchase some textured curtain panels and trim the leading edges and hems with a wide band of colorful trim. Use the colors in the trim to add accents to the rest of the room, such as knick-knacks on the dresser, framed artwork on the walls and pillows, dust ruffle, etc. on the bed. You can add additional interest with lamps. Instead of one large mirror over your bed, try several in different shapes and sizes, each with an interesting frame. This is pretty easy to do by finding interesting picture frames at flea markets, etc. and having mirrors cut to fit. If you don't like the color or finish of the frame you find, it's easy enough to spray paint it to a color you do like. None of the above suggestions will break the bank and you will have a bed room to be proud of. The color you have chosen for the walls is a good restful one and lends itself to blending with other colors. The furniture has a mahogany or cherry look to it, which would be attractive with rose- or burgundy-colored accents.

Do both dressers have to sit side by side for space reasons? It not I would move the smaller one to another wall and use it as the base for what you put on that wall. The room looks very dark, or maybe you took it at night, I'd go with the suggested mirror arrangement, I have that and love it. My frames are rectangles and squares, all with a texture and all in varying degrees of silver and gold metalic. Just to add interest I have two white wall sconces as well. I would use white accents to lighten things up and go with the bedding. I might think of a large light picture for over the headboard. Your lampshades are white and that would make a balance over and beside the bed. Have fun.

Can you turn that one dresser to its adjacent wall? I see slatted closet doors that match the floor. Floor is great, but doors should match your baseboards and window trim. Would brighten it up a bit, too. Great idea to use silver accents. Always good with blue/grey.

I would try and bring in some patterned curtains , pillows and a throw, maybe some red, yellow and blue. Something in a floral or to match the shape of the mirror on the dresser. If you could even pull the dressers apart would be better, also putting some accents in the colors of your material on the dressers. Also I love the idea of your starburst above the bed, you have a lot of right angles , you need more round shapes . Would also look into trying to match your lamp shades with your material or at least the same shapes and color :)

You first need to decide what type of style you like and build around that...such as county, contemporary, beachy, etc. I agree with the one comment about painting the closet doors white. You have too much different colored wood going on in the room and the shutter doors, because of the light wood really dominate over the dark walls and furniture. I suggest relocating one of the dressers to another wall. Then I would use woven drum shades on the lamps alongside the bed and I would use a long runner of the same type/color for the long dresser with mirror. I would find a piece of distressed wood that is slightly longer than the bed and use as a shelf (or mantle) above the bed then I would add some pictures of varying height (or get a long board and stain using a white vinegar solution that has a steal wood pad soaking in it for several days - will give it a "grayed" look). Or a large, long mirror with distressed frame to hang over the bed would be simple and look less cluttered..

I just did a guest bedroom with that color and I took a leap and went wild with silver ..took an old round clock that broke and put a mirror in where the clock was and spray painted it silver...took an old picture frame and painted that silver..(krylon nickel)...then I also painted a nightstand same color and put silver glitter on the handle...they turned out beautiful..used gray spreads on the bed...would lighten up your dressers...also took two old glass doorknobs put on a large nail and then draped some gauzy silver material 1 1/2 yards from Joanns for curtains...looks great...good luck

Oh wow! That sounds really nice. I'm going to post pictures as soon as I get everything finished but I also took a leap of faith and went with yellow and silver. I found a really pretty Martha Stewart bed set that included the curtains and valances. It's like a buttercream yellow with silvery swirl designs. The curtain sheets are yellow and the valances have a silver stripe on the yellow. Didn't think I would like it but it really brightens up the dark colors in the room. I have some wrought iron accents on the walls with little silver/champagne accents around.
