Did you cut between the studs? Is that where the recess came from?

Yes. We enlarged space between studs from 16" wide to 24", Size cut out from drywall was 74" high by 24". Once we added inside framing, finished width is 22.5".

I would love to take on this project but I am a novice. Can you provide detailed directions for this project?

This is framed between studs in an opening a bit smaller than the size of the slatted door and the shelving is adjustable type. It has regular door hinges and a magnetic closure.

Is this an insert that I can purchase ///

OR, did you do all the wood work yourself?

Very interested in this project !!

It was built in. I don't know of any inserts but I would think a closet type company might have, maybe not!

What a practical idea. There is a whole world of unused storage space in the hollows between interior walls. I used to suggest something similar to my husband, but he dismissed the idea as foolish. Maybe seeing it on this site will convince him that it is worthwhile. Good for you!

Thanks! I agree, could be used for spices, crafts, toys, etc. Could even be a vanity or jewelry set up.
