How can I make my entryway look inviting?

I have a very small entryway and my front door literally opens onto its wall. I'd love to put a small shelf and a mirror there but the door would hit it when it opens completely. Any ideas?

I have the same problem as you. I have a thin key holder and wall art! I really want to stencil on the wall and make it more to MY liking and to brighten it up more!! I have a stencil I picked on Royal Designs.com What a fun site to look thru!!!

A simple coat of paint is a great idea to jazz it up. it's a small room so you can go with a bold color. Since it sounds like you don't have a lot of space for a shelf, how about a decorative key rack and/or coat hooks -- something with character, perhaps from a salvage shop. You can buy a variety of door stoppers to prevent the door from hitting the wall. I have a decorative mirror on that wall. What about the other wall? Maybe a narrow shelf, pic, bit of hanging greenery or combo?

@Rocky If your mirror is not heavy, there is a product made for hanging pics that you can peel off the wall if you decide to move them. Got the pkg. at Home Depot. Depending on your style, Home Depot also has some nice mirror clips (not the old time plastic ones which they still sell as well). Otherwise, you can use silicone but tricky as the mirror would have to be braced in place until it dried. It's also a problem if you ever want to remove the mirror.
