what to do with vintage masonry stars?

I picked up several in different sizes. 2" up to 9" and wondered what to do with them. They are very rusty. I have to admit that I didn't know what they were until I looked them up but they just look so primitively cool! Any ideas?

I had to look them up, too. Looks like they would make a great conversation piece on the table as a hot pad or candle holder.

I was thinking candle holders too but the hole is a bit small for a taper. Two of the little stars do not have holes. Maybe arranging them on a flat board with a rustic farm type frame might look good if I knew an easy way to mount them. They are heavy! I like your idea of a hot pad if the bottom was felted on the big one.

Yeah, I guess scratching your table with rusty metal kind of defeats the purpose of a hot pad!
