Considering the age I would go with a replacement...chances are your well in not overly deep...as they can be out here in the Rockies...I have some clients who's wells are 600 to 800 feet down.

I am hoping to do fast temporary fix until next spring, I have to tar down a house they built around it.

  • There is no method of opening up a well point without pulling it out and changing it. And no a 22 will not do anything other then perhaps break off the well point which will prevent it from being removed later on. You could try an air compressor and push a lot of air down effectively clearing the well point. This may or may not work. But what do you have to loose. Normally once they plug it is do to water hardness that is often like cement.

another ting on the 22...you do not want to introduce lead into your drinking water.

We put Acid down and it worked good for now and next spring we will pull.

  • OK, I give up. What kind of acid did you use? And have you thought about getting the water checked, prior to using it? I assume the water is pretty hard where your at. But who told you to use Acid? I have never in all the many years I have been around wells heard of that method to clear a well point.

No we are Blessed to have wonder water not hard at all. No rusty water. Spring water matter of fact. The local hardware store man told us to put Muriatic acid down. they do it all the time for customers..It was my Grandpa who used to shoot 22 down.

  • Never heard of doing that. Anyway, if the well has not bee used for a long time, I strongly suggest not drinking the water until you get it checked. Your local township public health office should be able to provide you with someone local or the service to do that. Better to be safe, then sorry. Hope all works out for your family.

It has been 2 years with water off and it is right next to our house where we live.. I have no Problem getting checked. The acid is what they use in this area by many. Thanks for your thoughts.
