I need help in choosing a color for my dinette. Wallpaper has to go as it is too busy with the granite.

I started putting up beadboard in the color of the cabinets, but it appears too bright to continue. Any suggestions?

If you think it is too bright, choose a similar color. There are so many whites out there however if you have gray tones in your countertop, then I would choose a coordinating gray! Or even a darker brown color if ithe countertop is neutral.

Lovely granite Marcia. A larger view of the kitchen would help since the kitchen is really part of this room it would be easier for us to help you chose a wall color. Also what other colors are used in your home?

When the wallpaper is gone the white will not be as overpowering. However, you may want to paint the beadboard anyway so it has a nicer finish and you could go with a softer white. I would paint the walls in a beige which compliments the granite --- cant suggest a color without seeing the granite. Possibly do the table top in black and the chairs and table legs in an off white chalk paint which is super easy to do and looks great. Finally put some cushions on the chairs, maybe a check that brings in an accent color you are using elsewhere in the room. It will be lovely.

Now, I would not put cushions on the chairs, but recover the seats in your second color and you could add some upholstery batting over the seats and cover with new fabric.... this you can do yourself quite easily and quickly.

I would pick up the pale gray in the granite and use that on the walls. It will add depth and interest to the room.

I think I would go with a tan or biege - which appear to be in your counter. Then you decorate with white and black itme on the wall to bring both rooms together.

I like the wheat color. It's warmer and I think will look good in your kitchen. At least what I can see of it. A picture of the whole area would be nice please. Will you be making any changes to your dining table and chairs?

Have you thought about a shade of gray for your walls to go with your counter tops?Also get a print material to cover your chairs. Ilove to see what something like that can do to a room. Joann M.

Considering you have white trim? I would suggest going with something that will give (at least a slight) contrast .. you can add color and still be bright :) Check out Sherwin Williams Praire Grass SW7546 with is a beautiful color that changes throughout the day! Or if you want to stay neutral and play off the gold/yellow tones more in your BEAUTIFUL granite! Look at Windsor Greige SW 7528. ONE more suggestion, upload your picture and paint your walls with Sherwin Williams http://letschipit.com/ takes out all the guess work :)

Actually, Becky, the one you picked as wheat is yellow! I guess the colors are not accurately portrayed in the picture. It's "Home Decorators Collection" from Behr called Cellini Gold. It is very pretty!

I think the pictures are deceiving! It's not white, but creme although it looks like white on the computer. I thought the grey would work, but after laying 12 samples on the counter, the grey did not look right.

Try different settings on your camera Marcia until you get the more realistic colors. Granted one monitor can be different than another, but that's the best way I've found to get the right paint colors to show. Natural daylight also helps. As long as you don't have direct light that causes glare that's usually the best time to take photos of your home.

i like the bead board. i would go with letting the table top alone and paint the rest of it black and paint the chairs black. Go with a very pale grey or a cream or caramel color for the walls

Revere pewter by Benjamin Moore, but you can have other paint stores mix it for you. It is a great neutral and is a current neutral. It looks great with just about any coordinating color, especially the popular greens and blues.

Well I have to say I like the beadboard as well, and the counter top is beautiful , I would let those tones inspire the rest of the room, I would even do wanescoat or beadboard into the dinette, and a chair rail, as for the top of the wall I would go with a taupe, coffee /grey tone which is repeated in the counter top. Your furnishings are simple and classic in truth, So I would not want to take away from that with much embellishment. I do think you should perhaps change the coverings on your chairs. Blue seems to be a color you like with the flowers as a centerpiece, and if the main wall is more neutral and you don't get more neutral than taupe the world is opened up for fun pops of your favorite color!

I am guessing Beadboard is the boards you have on the dining room side of the kitchen cabinets. I actually like that but I can see why you might think it is not matching e.g. to the creamer colour of the wall paper. I personally think the wall paper is over powering the small space. Was it your intention to continue the beadboard into the dining room as well and then top it off with a beading leaving the wall have bead board and half wall paper? If it was I would still go with that but add more white to the room to make it seem cohesive e.g. add a white table runner, add white accessories - perhaps some plates on the wall, paint the other nick knack shelf white etc. To me the paper just consumes the space - even though it looks lovely on its own. Reducing the busyness of the space is going to make the room look so much bigger. I love your table but would also consider changing our light fitting above the bench to be white and maybe the chair cushions to white fabric as well. If the wall paper is not to your taste then ..... it should go and the beadboard will look fantastic.

what is your favorte color? no dark colors as it woulld make room look smaller. pale pale green, pale pale peach, pale pale yellow. get paint samples & try out colors. good luck on finding your color. i have 5 rooms to do. it's a pain to pick out paint colors for house that was built 1850-1890

I like the beadboard. You'll have to find a paint color that compliments the granite. A light greige, perhaps. Buy paint samples then paint big swatches on the walls and look at it at different times of day and night. I would also chalk paint the table and chairs white, and reupholster.

It looks like there are shades of grey marbled with the white in the granite. I would keep the beadboard a sparkling white and paint the walls a very light dove grey. If you have some space for decorator items, I would bring in a dull red (not a Christmas red) color.
