First set of furniture my husband I had purchased for our "new" home (100 year old victorian) back in 1999 was a rustic looking pine set with entertainment cabinet, coffee table, side table and book shelfs. After two kids, lots of crayons, markers and drink spills, it was time for a makeover for this poor piece with great bones still left in her.
Coffee table sanded down so no more markers or crayons were left behind.
Stained her dark walnut inside and out. Oh boy does pine ever soak up stain like a sponge. wanted to give her a dark wood undertone for the antiqueing process.
Had the company of my greyhounds as the weather was not good and I needed to complete this project inside.
Had a good day of weather and was able to take her outside for a couple coats of spray paint. Have I ever mentioned that I hate spray painting. Never again for furniture. Definately did not think that one through before I started.
Came across these vinyl decals on sale at Michaels 40% off and my internal light bulb went off. Perfect for our gathering place in the family room. Once applied, I antiqued the edges and a couple coats of polycrylic was brushed on.
Side shot.
Another side shot. Such a conversational piece when we entertain for parties or gatherings. So much you can do with old furniture to make it new again.

STUNNING!! JUST STUNNING! How wonderful to redo something that has been part of your lives for so long instead of throwing it out!
