As far as decorating goes I just moved from a small house with a very very small living room. I have a fireplace now, but still no mantel, so what I do is I have a small dresser that I use as my "faux mantel" It gives me a space to change with the seasons.... not sure if that helps, but that's what I do : )

Pictures would help Grandy, though if you have wall space above the sofa that could be your focal area.

A side chair, small table with a lamp and a small shelf (20" or so wide) above the lamp can be used to serve as a decorating space for all seasons. Look for a small decorative mirror to hang up and off to the side from the shelf which can be switched out with different decorations for different seasons or holidays. Then have fun with your creative ideas!
