Rustic Modern Dining Room

a bright and functional makeover of this nineties beige dining space, with bright, white paint, warm wood tones, a chalkboard feature wall and lots of DIY projects.
natural light floods the space with great views of the garden and backyard....not to mention the subtle monochromatic striped wall.
warm rustic pine dining table from Pottery Barn seats up to twelve so no one gets banished to the "kid table"
the existing brass chandelier is given a bold coat of black textured spray paint and given a touch of modern with the mini white globe bulbs.
a bold chalkboard covers the east wall because it looks pretty and provides entertainment to kiddos not wanting to stay at the table. The EAT letters are a fun DIY project you can find on the blog.
the DIY slipcovered bench acts as additional seating at the table and the perfect accent piece up against the dramatic black wall.
a mid century modern dresser is re-vamped into a buffet with DIY chalk paint and new hardware.
accessories include heirloom silver flatware, a reclaimed wood sign from a local artisan and a chalkboard picked up at an antique store.
the coves ceiling was rid of it's ornate stenciled accents and painted the same bright white as the walls
a free chair turns into something fabulous with a little black paint, some white vinyl and black nailhead accents, you can find the DIY on the blog. wood crates and throw pillows with black ticking soften up the space.
bright and airy is the best description for how this room feels when i walk into it.
it's in the details, crisp white dishes, hydrangeas from our yard and DIY mercury glass centerpieces and all that lovely woodgrain in the table legs.
the layered rugs not only create depth and texture but also allow for increased surface area.

It looks like a nice serene place. I think I would be afraid of splashing food or spilling something on the white covers although I do like this immensely.
