Have you ever walked through Pier 1, Pottery Barn or Ikea and saw something that you really liked, but then you looked at the price and said to yourself “how much?” I saw this Gold Pinecone Tree 24″at Pier 1 and decided that I could make this for a lot less than $49.95.

Here’s what I did. If you saw my post for the pine cone garland, (click on my page if you need to read it again.) I picked my own pine cones from my backyard and cleaned them. You can buy decorative pine cones from your local crafts, but I have more than enough :) All you need to make this Pine Cone Tree is:
Styrofoam cones
Krylon Glitter blast spray paint
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Pine cones

It was really that simple. When my pine cones were ready; I just started using my hot glue gun and attaching them to the Styrofoam cones.
Quick Tip: I thought spray painting before I attached them would be better. I found out after a can of spray paint that it is better to wait until after they are all on.

I finished one tree and then realized that I needed a set; one was not going to be enough! I chose 3 different sizes of Styrofoam cones and starting attaching more pine cones. This is when my first hot glue gun decided to break down. I went to the store and bought another glue gun and that one malfunctioned. I decided that I wasn't meant to finish this project so that’s when I started the pine cone garland and if you read the post it only took me an afternoon to complete. Back to the store and this one finally worked. I know I’m being taught to have patience and sometimes you need to take a detour. Lesson that I’m always reminding myself about. one day I will hopefully learn.
Once they were all done, I grabbed my Krylon Glitter Blast in Green, Bronze and Silver and out to the garage I went and started painting away.

I had to do multiple coats and spray in different directions. If you don’t want to get your hands painted, wear gloves!! I should have taken pictures of all the glitter on my fingers; another lesson learned :)
When you are doing crafts are you allowed to have favorites, or should you love them all the same? If you asked me what my favorite was out of the three colors I chose, I would say the bronze. When I was showing pictures, to my friends and co-workers I received mixed results, they usually like the green.

What’s your favorite color? I might do another pine cone Christmas tree in gold like the Pier 1 tree, and someone gave me another idea of layering them like a real pine tree. What should I do with these extra pine cones???
Off to my next craft adventure. Happy Crafting!

Shari K. ...... my folks owned property in Oregon...they had the massive pine cones..... I would clean them....then paint glitter glue on the tips (which are a lighter color than the rest of the pine cone) ....they looked lovely sitting around and now that my folks have passed the kids all have their special pine cones from Grandma and Grandpa's home....wish I had kept one for me so I could show you...simple but elegant :)
