we bought our dream vacation home in the Caribbean and with it came a 20 year old rattan and wicker chair & ottoman. The furniture was a little worn and on it's second or more upholstery fabrics. We loved the lines and the fact that this would be one less new purchase on our already stretched remodel budget. So, with a little sandpaper, a few cans of deep blue spray paint, new cushions, new fabric and about four days we were in love with the results. It is not only occupying a favorite spot looking out on the turquoise and cobalt waters surrounding St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands....it is our favorite furniture in the house.
Before: The dated but sturdy chair & ottoman
The only time consuming effort was to completely cover the dark brown leather strappings with blue painter's tape.
Ottoman in deep blue paint.
The old fabric would be removed. So, there was no need to be protective when we were spraying the paint on the lightly sanded wood.
Waiting on the paint to dry. 😉
The paint took three days to dry, due to the humid weather of the tropics.
Room with a view
Ahhhhhhhh, but it was worth the weight!
Close up
The brown leather is still both decorative and functional in keeping the "Island" feel to the pieces.
Outdoor Fabric
Outdoor fabric will insure years of non-fading and durability in the sunny spot on the planet. The ikat design brings a touch of exotic history to our little villa. "Villa Bliss", is the name of our dream come true island home.
