Finishing Our Basement With Smartwall
We finished the exterior walls of our basement - in one weekend! Using DRIcore's Smartwall product, hubby and I popped up our exterior walls to our basement - which is an all-in-one product: framing, insulation, drywall, priming and electrical - within two days. It was quick and easy, and only required a drill, saw, and a ton of 5" screws!
Here it is, ready for painting, flooring and trim. See below for the before.
This was the space when we moved in. It was dark and dreary. Concrete really doesn't add much warmth to the space, does it?
Head to the blog to see how we measured and prepped the space. We cut the Smartwall panels (roughly 8' X 2') with a circular saw and then screwed them into the tracks we installed along the ceiling joists and floor.
We used screws into our wooden plating to hang the wall panels. They connect together in a tongue-and-groove fashion and leave a micro-bevel edge between each panel.
Wherever there is an outside corner, you use one of these corner pieces. They go up first, and the wall comes out from there.
Here you can see the wooden plating (on the left hand side of the picture) as well as the walls panels as they come along. We opted to drywall the ceiling ahead of time because we knew we were going to do crown moulding (and because our drywallers were only available during a certain time) - you can put up Smartwall before your ceiling is done and have the drywallers tape over the panels.
We puttied the seams with the Smartwall patch pro and cleaned up our chaos. Our basement was well on its way towards completion! I'll be sharing the final "after" photos very soon!
