vinegar and dogwood trees

Vinegar has been a great way to kill weeds between slate on our patio but will it kill the dogwood trees since the roots are very close to the surface? I just lightly spray the weeds and they die shortly thereafter. It is not like I saturate the ground.

My understanding is that vinegar kills the leaves of weeds and such, but not necessarily any roots, so I think you should be safe.

You're good to be cautious, Joanne, especially about dogwoods, but I think you're safe with your strategy.
