DIY Birch Branch Christmas Tree

by Katie Stahl
This year we have a regular {real} tree, a small {fake} tree in the boys' room, and this ... ALTERNATIVE Christmas Tree! It's made of Birch Branches and was pretty much FREE! It is two dimensional (for the most part) ... just hangs on a wall, so it's perfect for small spaces! And I think we're representing our Scandinavian Roots ... what do you think?!?
Owen decorating the 'tree'
Basically ... you need 5 branches hung horizontal in varying lengths, and one thicker branch for the 'trunk'. You'll also need two piece of rope, about 7' each. Starting at the bottom, simply tie knots to hold the branches in place on each side:
Using eyelets on each piece, and some twine, tie on the 'trunk':
Using more small eyelets screwed into the bottom side of the branches, hang ornaments!
Add a tree topper (I found this rustic light up star at Michael's on sale!):
Add some presents underneath:
Then some lights to make it even more festive and so pretty at night!
A fun 'alternative' tree that takes up NO floor space! What do you think?!?

I'm looking for wall tree ideas as we have a puppy this year and I take dint want to spend all my time keeping him away from the tree! This is a wonderful idea and I'm going to search through our pile of brush for branches tomorrow!
