How To Make A Faux Fireplace For Your Porch

This year we gave our porch a Christmas-Cabin makeover for the holidays using lots of greenery, red gingham, blue rockers and even a fireplace complete with a mantel to decorate! Yes, we have an electric fireplace on our porch - the perfect place to enjoy an evening sittin' by the fire in our rockers (as long as there's a nice blanket nearby, too!).
Here are the steps to create your own faux fireplace here - you'll find more details on all the steps (plus more Christmas cabin decor!) on our site (link at the bottom).

The faux fireplace back (aka, 'chase') and mantel only took a few minutes to construct using a piece of bead board and a bit of painting. With our directions (and suggestions for using what you may have), you too can easily make this outdoor Christmas decoration for your porch!
Before
Cut the backing (chase) to size. We already had bead board to use, but you could use a piece of masonite or plywood, as well.
For the mantel, center and position a 2x4 (set on edge) on the chase and add corbels cut from a 2x4 with the ends at 45 degrees as shown. Secure with deck screws and paint or stain, as you like. TIP: for adding decorations to the mantel that won't blow away, I drilled small holes through the bead board backing at the top and back of the mantel to secure any items we place on the mantel with wire.
We already had an electric woodstove heater from our wood shop to serve as our "fireplace" but you can just as easily paint a fireplace on your backing/mantel. We set our stove to display the flame only and with a few added lights, it's a very warm and welcoming holiday display!
