Has anyone had success spray painting a ceiling fan?

I'm wanting to update the look of our ceiling fans because I don't have the money to replace all of the light fixtures.

Yes, my hubby spray painted our bathroom ceiling fan. Just make sure the blades are clean and sand then lightly. It will work!

I painted the metal portion and left the blades. I would think the blades would be the easiest if you wanted to paint them too.

Updated my gold hardware to bronze then painted the blades to coordinate with the room color and painted a stencil pattern on them . Changed it's look completely and became a focal point in the room.

@Barbara I took the hardware off the blade and used a bronze spray paint. On the motor I sprayed some of the paint onto an old rag and patted it on.

Be sure and seal your blades after you paint them or they will get grungy dirty.

I had a 16 year old blue ceiling fan in my bedroom. I cleaned it, unscrewed the fan blades, lightly sanded all of it, cleaned with tack cloth and foam rolled black & white enamel paint. I also used a nice artist brush for tricky spots. I let it all dry and screwed the blades back on & voila ! I didn't dare use spray paint. It looks & works great !
