Bejeweled Greens For a Holiday Welcome

What do you do when you have a holiday house tour planned that you’ve worked on at length, only to realize you’ve completely ignored the front door?
I’ll admit, I love a challenge, so coming up with a makeshift “alternative wreath” was just the thing in order. A quick perusal of the items I had left in my arsenal revealed two faux greenery branches, so I had the beginnings of what would become my bejeweled greens for a holiday welcome.
I wasn’t exactly sure what I had in mind but I figured I better ‘build’ the base first, so I crisscrossed the two branches and joined them with a rubber band. Then I tied the top with a bow, but one made from a lovely plaid silk scarf.
Next it was time to embellish the greens. I think this idea came from the fact that I love all things vintage and had I had the time, or an existing collection, I would have gone for tiny vintage ornaments. But in their absence, my mind went to my vintage pin collection.
This piece is an old favorite, and is actually an earring. I bought it years ago at the Soho Gallery for Wearable Art. The dangling marionette is a cupid and is only on one half of the earring set, while the other side is a much smaller post earring.

Adventures In Junking on Dec 27, 2014I love this. I use thriftstore costume brooches in my holiday decorating, too - especially one that looks like a snowflake.
