Faux Snow in a Jar Ornaments

Not everybody gets snow for Christmas or for the winter at all. Those that do know how quickly that pretty white stuff can turn to slush, or get dirty and dingy; so the idea of jarring up the first batch of fresh just as it is falling would be ideal... if it didn't melt of course.
Here is an idea for jarring up faux snow, just for fun, and as a reminder of just how pretty fresh snow can be.

Add a tag and call it "winter snow", "first snow of 2014", "Christmas snow", etc... And give some away as a gift, a keepsake, send it to a friend in a warm climate, lots of possibilities.

I used lightweight type spice and tealight jars.

Some had lids. Some did not.

I gather a bunch of supplies that I had already:

Brown paper lunch bags, burlap, yarn, glitter, epsom salts, card stock, small baubles, craft wirem craft paint...

For those that didn't have a jar lid, I made one with cardboard and glue it to the top of the jar with hot glue.

But the basic instructions are as follows:

- Decorate the jar lids by adding a piece of either fabric, wrapping paper, brown paper bag, or burlap and decoupage.

- Fill the jars with faux snow before securing the jar lids.

- One jar lids were all on, I stenciled the tops of some of the jar lids, added touches of craft paint to other.

- Next, To make a handle, I taped a piece of craft wire to the side of the jar, and then wrapped either craft wire, yarn or twice around the jar lid to hold the handle in place.

- I made sure to hot glue the twine or yarn into place for stability.

- Then I took the painters tape off and folded the ends of the wire handle up and twisted to secure.

I came up with a faux snow recipe that seemed to work quite well.

I even made some to commemorate some of the blizzards past from Chicago's history (just for fun).

For some of the tags, I used card stock edged with a bit of craft glue and doused with glitter.

All of the supplies came from my craft stock, making this holiday project super cheap!!

I think I'll make for my grand daughter she is really missing her snow this year. She is 18 months

  @Mary Allison I gave some to my nieces and they were quite intrigued with being able to study the glittery "snow". Thank you, Mary. I hope your grand daughter enjoys if you make one for her.
