How to clean grease stains from clothing

My husbands work jumpsuit is black with automobile grease & I would love any tips on how to get it clean,thanks!

Use Swarfega and a scrubbing brush on the grease patches before laundering. It should get the worst of it out. My ex boyfriend was a mechanic and his mum used this to wash his jeans and stuff that he wore to work. It is the same green goo that they use to clean the grease off their hands.

My husband has worked mechanics and construction jobs for a while now. Some things you can try is white vinegar and baking soda. Another product that I used to use quite a bit (when I could find it) is Zout. Another suggestion is to use those color grabbing clothes that you can throw in with the laundry. That will help keep the grubby stuff from his clothes from getting into the rest of your laundry. I hope that helps!

I have always used Lestoil, This product can be found in the store aisle that has all the home cleaning item's including the laundry soaps. To get rid of stains on clothing, use full strength, rub on the stain, let sit 20 minutes before washing.

Carburator cleaner. Believe it or not. Spray it on the stains, let it sit for a bit....wash in Tide in hot water. You may have to do it a couple of times but it works.

Dawn Dishwashing liquid was what they used to get the oil off the waterfowl and other ocean animals after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. I pretreat oil stains on clothing with it before throwing them in the laundry. But for something that bad, I'd probably try soaking or scrubbing with it, giving the Dawn enough time to break down the oil.

Thanks ladies! I tried the coke cola thing & wasn't impressed btw.@Kim Martin Pine-Sol & Dawn dish detergent is what i wound up using that day,as it was what i had on hand + the coke lol & Gain (prefer Tide,but..). I still had to wash it twice to get it somewhat clean & then as it was drying there was such a strong grease odor,horrible.@Christine Wesoloski Carburetor cleaner I will have to try.@Cori H I have heard of vinegar,but thought it was a more whiten,brighten sort of thing,same with baking soda,which i will definitely try & going to look for Zout.@Nanette Stanley I haven't tried Oxy on this,but not a big fan in the past,Shout used to make a product just like Oxy & it was AWESOME,but discontinued i suppose,as i haven't seen it in a few yrs. @Kathy Rose Lestoil i haven't heard of,but will look for it also. @Carole Good idea,seems like a bit of elbow grease has to go into cleaning the grease lol,but good idea. I used to use lestoil but couldn't take the smell. Now I use Murphy's Oil to soak the fabric and then scrub in Tide or another good detergent.

Shout was purchased by Resolve (the carpet cleaner) and the resulting laundry spray is pretty good. Thanks for the feedback, Evelyn. It's always nice to have options & we all learned several!

I use Go-Jo on my husband's greasy work clothes before I launder them.  The key is to work the  Go-Jo into the fabric before you get the fabric wet.  It works very well.

Dawn dish detergent works well on regular grease stains on my clothes but, not sure about your grease. Scrub it on , wash as usual but, don't dry until the grease is gone. Once you dry it the stain will set in.  I also used a bar soap called phelps Napa. Not sure if the spelling is correct but, it is a brown bar located in the regular bar soap section. Good luck,
