Sliding Glass door - need to replace vertical blinds!

I am looking for new ideas for my sliding glass doors. We use them frequently to go in and out, and the vertical blinds are pretty handy, but are old, cheap, and bland. Any ideas for something more interesting?

How about getting frosted contact paper for windows then stenciling designs on to them to put onto the sliding doors.

@Judy H You can keep the designs if any on the top 1/2 of the windows so you can have privacy you want.

Do you have room for siding barn doors? You buy the kit at a home center, then hang doors from your local Habitat for Humanity resale store. It would probably take two 36 " doors for a 6 ft slider. They slide easily to the side when you want to exit, or look awesome when closed. You could paint, stain, distress, or even glue paper like wall paper, decoupage, endless possibilities, defending on your space and decor.

@Linda Barrett Dirksen Hi Linda, thanks for the post. I think the barn doors sound wonderful. They might overwhelm the room. If the room was much larger, it might work. Also, I would like the ability to filter light. I have seen something that looks like vertical blinds, but they are not just blinds, they are inside curtain fabric, like curtains with blinds sewn into them. Hard to describe, but I had not seen anything like them before.

Oh, that would work. I haven't seen it. You could also paint the vertical blinds and stencil a design on them. If they are vinyl there is paint that will adhere, or fabric paint if they are woven. Have fun, good luck!

@Linda Barrett Dirksen You know, painting and stenciling the vertical blinds is something I would never have thought of, but cool idea, thanks!
