Birch Log Fireplace Screen

Our fireplace gives off huge drafts of cold air in the winter. In order to help make our home a little more energy efficient, I created an insulated screen to cover up our fireplace when we're not using it.
Here's the before - Can you feel the draft?
I started with some birch logs,
and cut them to varying widths, between 1/2" and 1 1/2".
I cut a piece of plywood down to fit in the opening, painted it gray, and used foamboard adhesive to attach a 1/2" thick piece of styrofoam.
After arranging the discs, I used an pneumatic nail gun to attach them to the plywood.
The foam is all I really needed, but the rest is what makes it pretty!
Most importantly, it really seems to be insulating the opening really well.
Or maybe most importantly, it looks much better than the sooty fireplace!

Is your flue closed? You shouldn't have a draft!
