Quick Buffet/Media Cabinet Makeover Using Chalk Paint™

While I was on a holiday break, I decided it was time to tackle a project I knew needed to be done. It was a quick and easy update to my buffet/media cabinet I refinished almost 3 years ago. After 3 years and 3 major house moves, I decided to give the cabinet a new coat of paint. All it took was some Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan and 2 1/2 hours and the cabinet had a new look!
For more information, you can check out the entire post on my blog.
Here is the buffet right after I bought it, cleaned it up and filled some of the holes. It was missing a lot of pieces, had a lot of peeling veneer and a ton of scratches. I decided to keep the top stained, so I sanded it down and stained it with a dark stain.

The body of the piece I painted in a nice crisp white and I was happy with how it all turned out.
This is how the cabinet looked 3 houses and 3 years ago. I really loved it in that room!
Fast forward about 2 years and this was how the cabinet looked in our new house in the Chicago area. The shelves on the huge wall were a temporary fix until I had time to start my plank wall project.
Fast forward another few months and the cabinet looked like this against my white plank wall. It got a bit lost against all that white.
This is how the cabinet looks now after 2 coats of French Linen Chalk Paint™, some wet cloth distressing and a coat of Annie Sloan soft wax. It pops off the wall now, but isn't too stark a contrast.
I did a wipe back distressing with a wet cloth so the white and the wood could show through.
I like how all the details pop and now the cabinet stands out a bit more against the sea of white.

Love it! I just caught the refinishing bug last summer and redid some furniture that I thought were surely ready for the trash. after all, that is where I found them but they are now treasured pieces in my home!
